#CMT# #/CMT# The commutator (1) has an insulating reinforcing ring (10) arranged around electrically conducting segments (3) in metal i.e. copper. A reinforcing ring (11) is made of a material e.g. steel, different from a material e.g. glass fiber, of the ring (10) and arranged against the ring (10). The ring (11) has a T-shaped with a longitudinal branch (20) parallely extending to a longitudinal axis of the commutator. A transverse branch (21) extends perpendicular to the branch (20), which has an axial dimension (h), measured along the axis, higher than an axial dimension (l) of the branch (21). #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Flat commutator for a rotating electric machine i.e. starter, (claimed) of a combustion engine of a motor vehicle. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The arrangement of the reinforcing rings around the conducting segments limits lifting and deformation of the conducting segments, thus improving behavior of the commutator to centrifugation particularly in high temperature ranges, and extending the service life of the commutator. The insulating reinforcing ring permits correct and easy centering of another reinforcing ring, thus simplifying the manufacturing of the commutator.
