PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quantitatively and highly accurately measure the volume fraction of a cancellous bone by quantitatively separating a pixel value obtained from nuclear magnetic resonance signals composed of pixels including both of the bone and the bone marrow. SOLUTION: The pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the cancellous bone and the pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the bone marrow are processed to have two distribution curves forming normal distribution respectively. The pixel intensity distribution by the pixels including both of the cancellous bone and the bone marrow is processed to have a uniform distribution distributed between the respective average values of the pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the cancellous bone and the pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the bone marrow. Further, the uniform distribution is processed to have a distribution curve widened by the standard deviation of the normal distribution which is the pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the cancellous bone and the normal distribution which is the pixel intensity distribution of the pixels including only the bone marrow. By fitting a histogram by the three distribution curves, the volume fraction of the cancellous bone is quantitatively obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
