An imaging device and a camera body that have enhanced convenience. A camera system (1) has an interchangeable lens (2) and also has the camera body (3) to which the interchangeable lens (2) can be mounted or to which the interchangeable lens (2) can be mounted with an adaptor (4) in between. A lens microcomputer (20) of the interchangeable lens (2) stores lens information including information on focal point detection methods. A body microcomputer (12) of the camera body (3) selects a focal point detection method based on the lens information. When the interchangeable lens (2) can be used for a contrast detection method, the body microcomputer (12) selects the contrast detection method as the focal point detection method. When the interchangeable lens (2) cannot be used for the contrast detection system and simultaneously when the adaptor (4) can be used for a phase difference detection method, the body microcomputer (12) selects the phase difference detection method as the focal point detection method.
