PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an elevator, provide a monitoring method of the elevator, and to prevent an unallowed rising of an elevator cage or a counterweight by the method. SOLUTION: At least one monitoring device 28 for monitoring the unallowed rising of the elevator cage is provided on a drive unit 9. The drive unit 9 comprises a motor unit 14 and a deflecting unit 17. When the counterweight supported by the deflecting unit 17, for example, rests on an elevator shaft pit, the deflecting unit 17 is unloaded, and is raised by a spring element 22 of the monitoring device 28. A sensor 29 of the monitoring device 28 detects the movement of the deflecting unit 17, and switches off a motor 30 of the motor unit 14 via a safe circuit. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
