PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method of manufacturing organic EL elements suppressing leaks between a buffer layer and a second electrode. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a method of manufacturing an organic electroluminescent element 1 equipped with a first electrode 11, a buffer layer 30, a light emitting layer 40, and a second electrode 50. This method comprises a step of ejecting ink containing an electroluminescent light-emitting material on the buffer layer 30 at a rate greater than the maximum volume rate that can be held on the top surface of the buffer layer 30 by a surface tension and a step of obtaining a light emitting layer 40 by drying the ink ejected onto the buffer layer 30.
