PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a D-T helical-type nuclear fusion power generator and its operation method that can freely vary the nuclear fusion output, in a short time up to a long time, by taking into consideration the time variation, and attain self ignition, by suppressing the external heating power by extending the starting period, and can perform safe operation, in a state where the temperature variations in the furnace are small. SOLUTION: This D-T helical-type nuclear fusion power generator 10 has a superconducting helical coil 3 and a blanket 2, and reaches self ignition by PID control that continues from pre-program control by receiving external heating power. The plasma operation density from the pre-program control to the PID control is set so that the level is a plasma density limit value or lower; and when the plasma operation density is made to approach the plasma density limit value, the starting time period starting, from PID control to self ignition, can be set at 15 seconds or longer.
