PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a resin having good storage stability in low and high temperatures and good water miscibility and decreasing the adding rate of methanol contained in a melamine resin for aiming at the cost down of the melamine resin. SOLUTION: This method for producing the melamine resin is provided by using a resin solution containing the melamine, formaldehyde and methanol, wherein the methanol content is 1 to 5 mass%, the total content of the melamine and formaldehyde is 40 to 52 mass%, and a molar ratio of (formaldehyde/melamine) is≥1.5 and <2.0, primarily reacting the resin solution at the reaction initial period pH of 8.5 to 11.5, then secondary reacting at the reaction initial period pH of 6.5 to 8.0 and adjusting the pH to 9.0 to 10.0 at a clouding temperature of 35 to 55°C for stopping the reaction.
