PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a mold for molding a honeycomb member having favorable precision, excellent in abrasion resistance and having a long life. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the mold 1 for molding the honeycomb member having supply holes for supplying a material and the polygonal latticelike slit grooves 3 communicating with the supply holes to mold a material into a honeycomb shape has a hole processing process for forming the supply holes to the hole molding surface 11 of the mold, a groove processing process of forming the slit grooves 3 to the groove molding surface 12 being the surface on the side opposite to the hole molding surface 11 of the mold, a heat treatment process of annealing the mold after hardening it and a surface hardening treatment process of increasing the surface hardness of the mold. In the surface hardening treatment process, a nitride layer is formed on the surface of the mold by performing nitrification treatment at a temperature lower than a phase transformation temperature of the material of the mold and the treatment temperature of annealing treatment to set the surface hardness of the mold to 800-1,000 HV.
