PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly control the movement of the short side member in a mold without bringing about matters frequently causing the complication of a maintenance operation and trouble. SOLUTION: In an actuator 10 for mold width changing where a ball screw 50 is rotated by the driving of a stepping motor 70 arranged at an actuator body 20, and a piston rod 30 is moved forwards/backwards from the tip part of the actuator body 20 in accordance with the rotary displacement of the ball screw 50, so as to move the short side member SM of a mold, a rotary encoder 80 detecting the rotary displacement of the ball screw 50 is arranged at the base end part of the actuator body 20.
