The active headrest system is shifted to a normal functional position of the backrest during a rear impact on a motor vehicle. A part of the backrest, or the headrest or a part of the headrest is shifted into a crash-active functional position immediately toward the passenger. The backrest or the headrest is held by an energy storage in its normal functional position, and a sensor is arranged in the backrest or the headrest.
