<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer with a mechanism precisely recognizing an object such as an ink with a simple construction, the ink, and an ink judging method. <P>SOLUTION: The printer includes at least one kind of a smell sensor 4 detecting a volatile substance and a judging circuit 5 recognizing the kind or the deterioration of the ink according to the detecting result of the smell sensor 4.
