SOLUTION: The invention provides a molybdenum pentakisalkylxanthate expressed by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>are each a group independently selected from the group consisting of 1-30C straight or branched-chain alkyl groups), a friction regulating agent composed of the compound and a lubricating composition containing the agent.
