PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generating apparatus properly correcting nonlinear reading errors different according to intermediate values. SOLUTION: The image generating apparatus comprises a light emitting element and a light receiving element and generates an image of a manuscript based on an output value outputted from the light receiving element. In addition, the apparatus comprises a light emitting control portion for outputting a light emitting control value to the light emitting element, an ideal output value storage for storing an ideal output value for each light emitting control value, an output value acquiring portion for acquiring a reference region output value for each light emitting control value outputted from the light emitting control portion, and a difference output value outputting portion for comparing the reference region output value with the ideal output value stored in the ideal output value storage and outputting a difference output value, which is a difference between the reference region output value and the ideal output value, for each reference region output value.
