PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass for mold press molding which can provide a high surface precision product since the glass does not be fusion-bonded at its contacting part when the glass is molded, with any mold and without forming a releasing film, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a glass for mold press molding including 44.7-60% of SiO<SB>2</SB>, 0-4% of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, and 3-40% of B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>comprises a step of preparing a candidate composition, a step of determining the basicity of the candidate composition represented by (total moles of oxygen atom/the total of field strength of cation)×100, a step of estimating the fusion-bonding property with the mold based on the determined basicity, a step of determining that the fusion-bonding of the glass with the mold does not occur since the determined basicity is 11 or less, a step of adopting a composition determined that the fusion-bonding with the mold does not occur, and a step of preparing raw materials so as to be the adopted candidate composition, and melting and molding the composition.
