<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting remaining capacities of batteries and capable of accurately detecting remaining capacities so as to ensure the operation of apparatuses at the time of large electric power even if the remaining capacities of the batteries of the apparatuses in which electric power substantially changes are detected when electric power is small. <P>SOLUTION: In the case that discharge electric power computed on the basis of a current value detected at a current detection part 204 is electric power smaller than estimated maximum electric power, maximum electric power estimated in an actual operation, discharge efficiency to be used for computing remaining capacities (S1204 in Fig. 5) is taken as discharge efficiency at estimated maximum electric power (S1202 and S1210 in Fig. 5).
