PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foot stand of a wheelchair, the foot stand being rotatably attached to the wheelchair and rotationally operated from its upright state to a horizontal state and locked at and unlocked from the horizontal state by an operation part provided on a position suitable for the operation. SOLUTION: The foot stand operating mechanism A of the wheelchair for care or the like includes: an operation part 20 provided on the position of the elbow pad 16 of the wheelchair 10 and including an operation wire Wo and a locking mechanism; a rotary shaft part 18x provided on the base part of the foot stand 18; and a connection wire W attached from the operation part 20 to the foot stand 18 attached to the lower front part of the support frame of the wheelchair 10 along the support frame. One end of the connection wire W is connected to the operation part 20 and the other end is connected to the rotary shaft part 18x of the foot stand 18. A twist spring for pulling the foot stand 18 upwards at all times is attached to the rotary shaft part 18x of the foot stand 18. The shaft part of the rotary shaft part 18x is rotated by the pull-up force of the operation wire Wo and the foot stand 18 is lowered from the upright state to the horizontal state and is locked or unlocked at a horizontal position.
