<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multistage compressor that is provided with an injection circuit, and can maintain a high-efficiency, high-performance operation, even if the injection circuit is turned on/off depending on operating conditions. <P>SOLUTION: A multistage compressor 2 is provided with an injection circuit 15 that inhales an intermediate pressure coolant compressed by a low stage side compression mechanism 4 into a high-stage side compression mechanism 5 to subject it to secondary stage compression, and injects the intermediate pressure coolant into the intermediate pressure coolant inhaled into the high-stage side compression mechanism 5. The high-stage side compression mechanism 2 is provided with a capacity control mechanism 61 for bypassing the coolant gas during compression to its inhalation side. The injection circuit 15 is provided with an on/off means 75 for turning the injection of the coolant on/off.
