PERSON RECOGNITION METHOD AND SYSTEM BASED ON BIOMETRIC HAND ANALYSIS

The invention relates to automatic person recognition based on cross-comparisons of an image of an individual's right and left hands. The invention comprises a five-step process consisting of: a first step in which two cameras are used to take images of outstretched hands placed apart from one another on a suitable platform; a second step in which the images are processed and a reference system is defined for each hand; a third step in which a series of robust descrptors is established, said descriptors being determined by a set of invariant characteristics relating to both hands; a fourth step in which the individual is checked and identified using a data bank containing multiple templates of each user's two hands; and a fifth step in which output information and signals are produced. The invention is ready for immediate industrial application in fields involving access and attendance monitoring, which require persons to be checked or identified with short response times.
