The present invention relates to an air purifier and a controlling method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the air purifier includes: an illumination intensity sensor sensing surrounding illumination intensity; a pollution level display part displaying concentration of dust contained in indoor air; a lighting part emitting light; and a controlling part controlling the pollution level display part and an on/off mode of the lighting part depending on the illumination intensity sensed by the illumination intensity sensor.
