PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating material having excellent storage stability, resistance to contamination, transparency, weather resistance and freeze damage resistance, and to provide a coated article having a coated film excellent in resistance to contamination, transparency, weather resistance and freeze damage resistance. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating material comprises a copolymer, a silica particle, at least one anionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of a sulfuric ester salt of a polyoxyalkylene aryl ether, a sulfuric ester salt of a polyoxyalkylene alkylaryl ether, a formalin condensate of a sulfuric ester salt of a polyoxyalkylene aryl ether and a formalin condensate of a sulfuric ester salt of a polyoxyalkylene alkylaryl ether, and a nonionic surfactant, wherein an amount of the silica particle is 0.5-20 parts by mass based on the copolymer of 100 parts by mass, and an absolute value of zeta-potential is≥33 mV and≤58 mV.
