The present invention relates to a novelsynergistic pharmaceutical compos ition for serotonin reuptake inhibition, wherein thesaid composition compris es pentacyclic terpenoid glycosides, preferably asiaticoside and madecassosi de optionally along with excipients. Also the present invention relates toex cipients; a process of preparation of novelsynergistic pharmaceutical compos ition for serotonin reuptake inhibition, wherein the process comprising step s of: (a) obtaining extract from the plant Centella asiatica; (b) treating t he extract with the solvents to remove fatty substances, chlorophyll and oth er colorants; (c) purifying the extract through HPLC to obtain the eluted so lvent; and (d) concentrating the eluted solvent to arrive at the composition . The invention also relates to thecomposition; and use of a composition com prising pentacyclic terpenoid glycosides, preferably asiaticoside and madeca ssoside optionally along with excipients to manufacture a medicament for ser otonin reuptake inhibition in a subject in need thereof.
