PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism counter for counting live microorganisms and dead microorganisms in a specimen either containing or possibly containing microorganisms using a fluorochrome, improved in accuracy compared to conventionally known relevant techniques. SOLUTION: The microorganism counter 1 improved in swiftness and accuracy, is provided, having the function of staining microorganisms in a specimen with a living microorganism-staining reagent and a dead microorganism-staining reagent, and, based on the area and the luminance level of the resulting luminescent points, judging whether the luminescent points indicate microorganisms or contaminants.
