PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevating/lowering transport device to be used for a wide range, in regard to an elevating/lowering transport device to be used to transfer an automobile body in an automobile assembly line. SOLUTION: A multi-stage extensible support body 1 stood on a base 2 so as to be extended/shrunken in the vertical direction comprises at least one middle stage elevating/lowering support portions 4a and 5a capable possible to be elevated/lowered in relation to a fixed support part 3 fixed onto the base 2 and a terminal stage elevating/lowering portion 6a possible to be elevated/lowered in relation to the middle stage elevating/lowering support portion 5a. The terminal stage elevating/lowering portion 6a is provided with a support part for an article to be transported (transferring means 14), and the fixed support part 3 is provided with a wound and stretched transmitting tool 21a supporting a counter weight 20 which can be elevated/lowered within a height range thereof and applying the gravity of the counter weight 20 upwardly to the middle stage elevating/lowering support portion 4a, an elevation/lowering driving means 24 for driving the middle stage elevating/lowering support portion 4a to elevate/lower in relation to the fixed support part 3, and wound and stretched transmitting tools 22a and 23a for converting the elevating motion of the middle stage elevating/lowering support portion 4a in relation to the fixed support part 3 to the elevating motion of the terminal stage elevating/lowering portion 6a in relation to the middle stage elevating/lowering support portions 4a and 5a.
