PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of a rotation error at the start of driving after lowering the rank of driving pulse energy. SOLUTION: If a rotation detecting means 109 detects induced voltage occurring when a stepping motor 102 is driven to rotate with a first main driving pulse, and a control circuit 107 determines that the stepping motor 102 has continuously rotated by a predetermined number of times, for driving by switching to a second main driving pulse of which the energy is lower by one rank than that of the first main driving pulse, at initial driving with the second main driving pulse, the stepping motor 102 is driven with the second driving pulse and also a correction driving pulse. Thereby, the stepping motor 102 can be securely rotated even in situations of unstable energy state at the initial driving as the energy rank of the main driving pulse is lowered.
