<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well clean a charging member of a contact charging device by efficiently transferring toner depositing on the charging member to an image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus equipped with a charging device for charging a photoreceptor by bringing a charging brush roller to which a charging bias comprising an AC voltage superimposed on a DC voltage is applied into contact with the photoreceptor, in which an electric field through which toner depositing on the charging brush roller in a non-image-forming area transfers to the photoreceptor side is formed to transfer the toner from the charging brush roller to the photoreceptor, in the non-image-forming area, an AC voltage of a lower frequency than that in an image forming area is applied to charge the photoreceptor to a surface potential Vd of a shape according to the AC voltage, and the electric field Vt is formed by the potential difference between the surface potential Vdmax and a minimum value Vbmin of the charging bias Vb. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
