PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can prevent a burden from being imposed on a connector part of a carriage and a base part of a flat cable from the connector part when the carriage moves. SOLUTION: In the image reader which is provided with the carriage 20 contained in a carriage containing part prepared in a main body part, and movably held along a scanning direction, a substrate 25 mounted on the carriage 20, and the flat cable 40 derived from the connector part 35 prepared on the device board 25, and connected to the main body part side; slit parts 41 are formed in the device board 25, through which the flat cable 40 derived from the connector part 35 passes, and hold the cable. The two slit parts 41 are formed in an upper and a lower parts, the flat cable 40 is inserted from an inside face 25b to the slit part 41 at the upper part in the substrate, furthermore, inserted from an outer side face 25c to the slit part 41 at the lower part in the substrate 25, and led to the inside face 25b of the substrate.
