PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a vertical magnetic recording head which has no defect such as a void and is provided with a main magnetic pole of uniform composition. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of a vertical magnetic head 1, which has a recording head 20 and a main magnetic pole 26 which is provided in the recording head 20 and applies a vertical magnetic field to the magnetic recording layer of the facing recording medium 60, has; a process in which a nonmagnetic conductive layer 24 is formed on the substrate 21 of the recording head 20; a process in which an insulating layer 23 is formed on the nonmagnetic conductive layer 24; a process in which a groove 39 whose section is V-shaped or whose lower bottom is shorter than its upper bottom, that is, trapezoidal, is provided by removing a part of the insulating layer 23; and a process in which a magnetic material is embedded into the groove 39 by a plating method to form the main magnetic pole 26.
