The present invention relates to a catalyst which comprises a catalytically active zeolite and a binder, where the binder consists essentially of an oxide of niobium or tantalum. The catalyst is used in the acid-catalysed conversion of hydrocarbons, in particular in olefin conversion or in the cracking of hydrocarbons. The invention further relates to a process for producing the catalyst.
