<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylindrical storage battery having excellent volume efficiency, high reliability, and high quality, which is formed so that a sealing plate can be firmly secured to the prescribed position of the opening part of a case can without producing a useless space in the battery. <P>SOLUTION: In this cylindrical storage battery 10, the case can 16 is directly welded to a negative electrode collector 15, the sealing plate 17 is also directly welded to a positive electrode collector 14, and a ring-shaped groove 16b protruding from the outside of the case can 16 toward the inside is formed in the side wall portion of the case can 16 corresponding to the position where the sealing plate 17 is disposed.
