PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize inside diameter dimensional errors at a glass substrate for a magnetic disk.

SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the glass substrate for the magnetic disk comprises an inner periphery working step to work the inner peripheral edge surface of the glass substrate 102, a chemical strengthening step to chemically strengthen the glass substrate 102 by that a part of ions contained in the glass substrate 102 is replaced by ions in a treating liquid for chemical strengthening by contacting the glass substrate 102 with the treating liquid for chemical strengthening and furthermore a grasping step to grasp the variation value of the inside diameter at the glass substrate 102 in the chemical strengthening step. In the inner periphery working step, the inner peripheral edge surface of the glass substrate is characterized to be worked so that the inside diameter after the chemical strengthening step has a desired value based on a grasped result in the grasping step.
