PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch buffers according to a memory access unit. SOLUTION: An input image is divided into bands, input image data divided into the bands is stored in a buffer in the vertical scanning direction per memory access and the input image data stored in the buffer is read in the vertical scanning direction per pixel. When the number of bits of one pixel is denoted as p, the number of bits per memory access is denoted as m and a common multiple of p and m is denoted as c, after storing data for c/m in the main scanning direction in the buffer, the data is read from the buffer.
