PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear projector with a dust-proof structure effective in cooling performance and dew condensation prevention. SOLUTION: In the rear projector 1, light emitted from a light source is converted into single polarization light by an integrator illuminating section 41, the polarization light is modulated by a modulating optical section according to image information, and then diverged and projected onto a screen 20. The rear projector 1 includes: a cooling frame body 63 that is a first sealed space defining a sealed space containing the integrator illuminating section 41; a second sealed space defining a sealed space containing an optical unit housing 49, sirocco fan 61, and the modulating optical section; a cooling mechanism for cooling the integrator illuminating section 41 and modulating optical section by circulating cooling air in the sealed spaces defined by the first and second sealed spaces; and a heat insulating layer for rendering a space between the first and second sealed space heat-insulative.
