PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrophilicizing a fabric, particularly to provide a method for the hydrophilicizing treatment of a fabric to hydrophilicize the fabric through preventing the fabric from hydrophilicity decline stemming from being treated with a cationic surfactant-based softener, and to provide a hydrophilicizing treatment agent for the above method. SOLUTION: The method for the hydrophilicizing treatment of a fabric includes treating the fabric, via an aqueous medium, with a polymeric compound composed of (a) cationic group-bearing constituent units and (b) constituent units each represented by general formula (1). The hydrophilicizing treatment agent containing the polymeric compound, a cleanser containing the polymeric compound, and a softener containing the polymeric compound are also provided, respectively.
