PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a sintered compact by which, e.g. even in the case where metal powder to be used is fine and liable to agglomerate, a sintered compact having excellent mechanical properties can be manufactured without fail and also to provide a sintered compact which can be manufactured by such a manufacturing method and has excellent mechanical properties. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the sintered compact comprises the following steps: a primary particle preparing step (a first step) 1 of preparing a primary particle composed mainly of metal and having a metal oxide film on the surface; a reductant-coated particle forming step (a second step) 2 where at least a part of a surface of the primary particle is coated with a reductant capable of reducing the oxide to prepare a reductant-coated particle; a shaping step (a third step) 3 where a composition containing the reductant-coated particle and an organic binder is shaped to prepare a green body; a debinding step 4 of applying debinding treatment to the green body to prepare a brown body; and a firing step (a fourth step) 5 where the brown body is fired to allow the oxide and the reductant to react with each other and, while discharging the resulting gas from the brown body, the brown body is sintered to obtain the sintered compact.
