The incorporation of halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine) on the surface, or the regions close to the surface, of Ni-base materials can significantly increase the oxidation stability of Ni-base alloys in the temperature range from 700°C to 1300°C compared to untreated Ni-base alloys. The halogens, or halogen compounds, can be applied to the surface by means of different methods, such as by means of ion implantation, immersion, painting, spraying, or gas phase transport, or can be incorporated in the region of the components that is close to the surface. |
