The circuit arrangement (1) has an illuminating unit (2) designed as a lamp i.e. halogen lamp, and a semiconductor switch (4) arranged in series to the lamp. A controller (3) with a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal controls the semiconductor switch, when the lamp is switched on. A pulse activation period is changed to pulse time-out, and the PWM signal exhibits a larger pulse activation period and/or a shorter pulse time-out than PWM signals in stationary operation during switching. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an illuminating unit.
