PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of measuring a polarization wave state of a quickly fluctuated light signal. SOLUTION: This technique generates a light pulse having a single polarization face with a period of the light pulse different by 1/▵f from a period of a signal light and with a width of the light pulse narrower than a width of the signal light, separates the signal light and the light pulse respectively into X-polarization wave components and Y-polarization wave components with orthogonal polarization faces by a polarization wave separation element, makes the X-polarization wave component of the signal light and the X-polarization wave component of the light pulse incident into the first optical hybrid, makes one light signal branched from the Y-polarization wave component of the signal light and one light pulse branched from the Y-polarization wave component of the light pulse incident into the second optical hybrid, and makes the other light signal branched from the Y-polarization wave component of the signal light and a light pulse delayed byτfurther from the other light pulse branched from the Y-polarization wave component of the light pulse incident into the third optical hybrid. Output lights from the first-third optical hybrids are received by the first-sixth balance type photoreceivers, and amplitudes and phases of the X-polarization wave component and the Y-polarization wave component of the signal light are found based on output values from the first-sixth balance type photoreceivers.
