The portions (2, 3) covering the chest and back are secured to each other via two shoulder bands (5, 7) and a hip band (9). These connections include at least one locking cable (6) which can be released by activating an actuator part (4), so that these connections are broken. At least part of the cable is enclosed by a guide extending in the cable length direction. Each shoulder band has a first end secured to one of the vest portions and the second end secured via the locking cable to the other portion. The cable is secured to the second end of the shoulder band at a location where there is an interruption in the guide.
