<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion vector coding method and a motion vector decoding method for improving coding efficiency by enhancing capability of predicting a value of a motion vector. <P>SOLUTION: The motion vector coding method includes a peripheral block specifying step (S100), predicted motion vector deriving steps (S106, S108), and a motion vector coding step (S110). A block to be coded is predictively coded by using forward and backward motion vectors. In addition, when a periphery block is predictively coded by using the motion vector of other blocks, two motion vectors found by using the motion vector of the other blocks and used for predictively coding the periphery block are specified as two motion vectors included in the periphery block in the step S106.
