<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a near-field optical memory head capable of increasing the light intensity and emission efficiency of generated near-field light and reducing the quantity of generated heat. <P>SOLUTION: The near-field optical memory head includes a silicon substrate 2 in which a taper hole 2a in the shape of an inverted cone whose diameter gradually decreases from a front side thereof to a rear side thereof is formed, where the vertex of the taper hole 2a is a small opening 2b, and an optic fiber 4 in which laser light La propagates and which has a tip portion 4c which has a taper shape that matches the shape of the taper hole 2a and is fitted into the taper hole 2a. The laser light La propagates in a core 4a of the optic fiber 4 and is then emitted through an end surface of the core 4a located near the small opening 2b toward the small opening 2b, so that near-field light P is generated near the small opening 2b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
