PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive capable of improving operational reliability by recording proper management information in an optical disk according to the processing of a recording area, and to provide an optical disk processing method. SOLUTION: This optical disk drive includes recording units (25 and 21) for recording information in an optical disk having a management area (Z7), guard areas (Z2, Z11, Z18, and Z20), and a data area (Z19), and a management unit for storing, when the data area is divided or reduced, management information indicating the on-going recording of the state of the optical disk in the management area even if no data has been recorded in the data area, and storing, if no data has been recorded in the data area even if during recording in the guard area, management information indicating nonrecording of the state of the optical disk in the management area.
