The device has a laser measuring instrument (2) stored in a placement station (4), and formed as a measuring bridge operated according to a backlighting principle. The instrument consists of a coupling part (5) in the form of a modified standard interface. The standard interface is loadable with an adapter (9) of a tool system (8) of a turning machine in such a manner that the instrument is transported by the tool system to measuring positions at a work piece (1) and to a neutral position in the station.
