CUTTING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME

A cutting device and a method for controlling the same, in which the blade edge of a cutter can be set surely in the initialization direction. The cutting device comprises a cutter (8) where the blade edge is held to perform eccentric rotation freely about the axis of rotation perpendicular to media (50); and a blade edge direction initialization means for setting the blade edge direction of the cutter (8) in the initialization direction along a predetermined direction when the blade edge abuts against the media (50) at the cutting start position. The blade edge direction initialization means comprises an actuator for elevating/lowering the cutter (8) relatively to the media (50); a media feed mechanism (10) and a cutter head moving mechanism (30) for moving the cutter (8) relatively in two axial directions in a plane parallel with the media (50); and a cutter blade direction reset means (9) for setting the blade edge direction of the cutter (8) in the direction intersecting the initialization direction under a state where the blade edge is separated from the media (50).
