A mobile communication terminal capable of changing functions by inputting characters in a standby screen, and a phone number searching system and a phone number searching method using the mobile communication terminal are provided to input characters directly in a standby screen and press a desired function button to execute a desired function, not performing operations after pressing a button by function and selecting a desired function. A mobile communication terminal has a character/numeral converting button(13) on a keyboard(12). The Korean alphabet, an English sentence, and numberals are inputted on a standby screen according to a frequency that the character/numeral converting button is pressed. Characters are inputted on the standby screen even though the existing buttons of the mobile communication terminal are independently used or one of the existing buttons and the character/numeral converting button are combined and pressed at the same time. An icon(14) is displayed in a side of the standby screen to indicate whether the current input status of the keyboard is a character or numeral input status. If a button corresponding to a desired function out of a send key(15), a text message key(16), and a wireless Internet connection function(17) is pressed after inputting characters, the desired function is directly executed without the middle process of the function.
