Patterning method and method for manufacturing liquid crystal display device using the same

Pattern material (200a) e.g. black matrix material, is coated into the recesses (430), alternating with lands (460) on a printing plate (400), via e.g. ink-jet method, or by using precision nozzles (600). A printing roller (500) rolls over the printing plate to adhere the pattern material, and is then rolled over the substrate (100) to print the material on the substrate surface. The pattern material, and either land or recess, preferably has hydrophilic characteristics. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing an LCD device.
