A method of configuring and tracking the configuration of processing components used in information handling systems, said processing components comprising integrated circuits having a plurality of features which can be enabled or disabled. Keys associated with the features provide authorisation for enabling or disabling features. A key database on a key server stores the keys, and selected keys may be accessed by an authorised user to enable or disable selected features of the processing components. The key server receives information from the authorised user regarding usage of the selected keys and destroys the keys in the key database after usage to ensure accurate tracking of the selected features. Selected features may be disabled by blowing one or more fuses incorporated in the integrated circuits. Alternatively the integrated circuit may include flash memory having a feature table where selected features are enabled by altering and permanently restricting access to the table. |
