A deep red phosphor is provided to ensure very excellent luminous efficiency, and to improve brightness performance and color rendering when the phosphor is applied as a fluorescent layer of a fluorescent lamp. A method for preparing a deep red phosphor includes the steps of: homogeneously mixing magnesium oxide, metal fluoride(AF2, in which A is a metal), germanium oxide, and a manganese precursor compound in a molar ratio of (k-x):x:1:y to prepare a mixture powder, wherein k is a real number between 2.8 and 5, x is a real number between 0.1 and 0.7, and y is a real number between 0.005 and 0.015; heat-treating the mixture powder at 1000-1200 °C for 4-9 hours to fire the mixture powder; and washing and filtering the fired powder.
