PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an automatic brake control in a truck or a bus. SOLUTION: A stepwise brake control is automatically performed when TTC obtained according to a relative distance and a relative speed between the own vehicle and an object is lower than a predetermined value. For example, a brake force or a brake reduction speed is gradually increased over a plurality of stages in time series. Moreover, the starting of the stepwise brake control is prohibited when a vehicle speed is not more than a predetermined value, and the value of a steering angle or a yaw rate is outside the predetermined range.
