The present invention relates to an emergency system using a set-top box. When an ON signal is received, a set-top box outputs images for channels, which are transmitted from a broadcasting station, to a display and is driven in a watching mode. When the ON signal is not received, the set-top box is driven in a standby mode. When the set-top is not switched from the standby mode to the watching mode for a preset time period, the set-top box transmits an acknowledgement request signal to a subscriber terminal whereas the set-top transmits an emergency signal when an acknowledgement signal is not received from the subscriber terminal. Also, when a manipulation signal is not applied to the set-top box for a preset time period in the watching mode, the set-top box transmits the acknowledgement request signal to the subscriber terminal, and transmits the emergency signal when the acknowledgement signal is not received from the subscriber terminal. According to the present invention, user safety is improved by detecting all of various types of emergency situations. |
