A process for producing an optical film, characterized by extruding a melt containing a cellulose ester resin from a casting die to thereby form a lengthy cellulose ester film of 5 to 30 draw ratio, cutting off both sides of the lengthy cellulose ester film and winding the same in roll form, and, while spreading out the lengthy cellulose ester film from the roll, carrying out continuous coating of the surface thereof with an optically functional layer.
